Tom DeLay's Ethics Crisis
Let me get this straight…
The Republicans control Congress, have a host of problems to address in this country, and the FIRST thing they do is change their own rules (established under Newt Gingrich) to protect Tom DeLay? It's true...Congressional Republicans voted to change their rule that requires an indicted leader to relinquish his post.
Mr. DeLay, the House Majority Leader, is under fire for a multitude of ethics violations, and is being investigated by Ronnie Earle, a Texas District Attorney who happens to be a Democrat. He has been in his position since 1976 and has been recognized for his work several times. However, now that he dares to investigate a member of Congress from the opposite party, he has been smeared as an out-of-control prosecutor by Republicans.
If you want to discuss out-of-control prosecutors, I’ll be happy to bring up Kenneth Starr, who kept digging and searching and expanding his Whitewater investigation until he finally found something. Mr. DeLay has been criticized by some colleagues and may have broken the law. If there is a time to be investigated, it seems this would be one.
Since DeLay is a Republican, apparently he is above the law. Don't believe it, and keep an eye on this case to see the true nature of people who will do anything to hold onto power.
