Peter Griffin, protagonist of the cult cartoon Family Guy, was riding an elephant in one episode as he led a parade into his backyard (don't ask).

From atop the elephant, he says to his wife, "hey Lois, look...the two symbols of the Republican Party: an elephant, and a fat white guy who's afraid of change."
