Red State Tour 2004
Well folks, I will be on a temporary hiatus from blogging and from life, as I embark on a long-awaited vacation to Red States. That is not a series of typos....I am going on vacation to visit friends, family, and sites in the Southern part of this country, in places that happen to be utterly RED when it comes to voting.
I will be in 3 different states overall, and look forward to getting a better sense of the culture and belief systems that these people have. It's very easy to sit at a desk in the Northeast and write about people in the South who you have never met. It's easy to make blanket statements about groups of people you do not know. It may be quite different to meet these people, and to try to understand where they're coming from.
When I return in 2005, I hope to delve further into this other, foreign culture who voted for Bush because they were afraid that a President Kerry would force them to do drugs and burn Bibles (oops, there goes another blanket statement. See? Very easy.).
I wish you all a very Happy New Year, and remember that all is not lost. Well, not yet. Give Bush some more time and it will be. Wait, we just did give him more time. Dammit...
