Rats

A woman walks into a curio shop in San Francisco. Looking around at the
exotica, she notices a very life-like, life-sized bronze rat. It has no
price-tag, but is so striking she decides she must have it. She takes it to
the owner: "How much for the bronze rat?" "Twelve dollars for the rat, one
hundred dollars for the story." She pays him the $12 and says, "Keep the
story."

As she walks down the street carrying this bronze rat, she notices a few
real rats have crawled out of alleys and sewers and have begun following
her. This is a bit disconcerting, so she begins walking a little faster.
Within a few blocks, the number of rats has grown by hundreds, and they're
squealing. She is at a dead run toward the bay when she looks back at what
seems to be thousands, or even millions of squealing rats coming toward her
at full speed. Terrified, she runs to the edge of the Bay, and throws the
bronze rat as far out as she can.

To her surprise, the million rats jump in after it and drown! She returns to
the curio shop where the owner, who is waiting, He says: "Now I suppose you
want the story?"

"No," said the woman, "I came back to see if you have a
bronze Republican."
